Anglicare WA is a not-for-profit organisation with a diverse culture that truly stands out. Shani shared that one of the main challenges they faced was ensuring their internal culture aligned with the external perception potential candidates had of the organisation. While they knew they had an exceptional workplace, the gap they needed to bridge was the misconception some people may have had about what it’s really like to work at Anglicare WA.
As Shani explained, “People have an expectation of who we are and what their experience might be, but we surpass those expectations once they join us. The question then becomes, are there people who might not apply because of misconceptions about who we are and how we work?”
To close this gap, Anglicare WA knew they needed to invest more energy into amplifying their EVP to ensure they were showcasing the true essence of the organisation to potential staff. This meant highlighting not just the amazing workplace culture but also the diversity of experiences that employees can have across various roles—from counsellors and HR professionals to marketing and advocacy staff.
The decision to join the VideoMyJob pilot program came after attending a workshop that demonstrated the potential of the platform. Shani saw firsthand how easy it was to create engaging video content with minimal resources. The platform provided a compelling alternative to traditional methods of showcasing employee stories, giving Anglicare WA the ability to generate authentic content without needing to rely on their already stretched marketing team.
"VideoMyJob is a game changer. The simplicity of the platform allowed us to create compelling stories without loading our marketing team." - Shani Jarvis
Before integrating VideoMyJob, Anglicare WA struggled with producing dynamic content that communicated their values. Typically reliant on static website content and job ads, their previous methods lacked interactivity and depth. With the support of the VideoMyJob team, they launched an initiative to collect employee stories, giving their staff a platform to share genuine experiences. The simplicity of the process -where employees could quickly record videos from any location - facilitated participation from a diverse range of team members across the organization.
"Giving our employees a platform to share their stories has been incredibly empowering. They want to be a part of our narrative." - Shani Jarvis
Shani spoke highly of the support her team received throughout the process.
"We had some amazing support from Alex, who’s part of the team at VideoMyJob, along with Gavin, David, and the rest of the team," she said. "There was no shortage of ideas, tips, and suggestions that helped guide us."
One of the key factors in the success of this initiative was the ease of use of the VideoMyJob platform. Shani noted, "We wanted to make the time commitment as minimal as possible. The pilot program made it so easy for people to participate. The platform is genuinely two clicks, and you’re in. You enter your details, click again, and your camera opens - it's that simple."
This ease of use allowed Anglicare WA to gather authentic stories from across their diverse workforce in a short space of time. In total, Shani estimates that the time investment from everyone involved was about a week’s worth of effort. This resulted in a library of 75 unique pieces of content—professionally branded and aligned with the organisation's guidelines
These videos were designed to align with Anglicare WA's branding, complementing their website and career pages. Employees from various departments participated enthusiastically, capturing their personal narratives and the fulfilment they derive from their roles. This extensive library not only serves as an essential asset for attracting the right talent, but also fosters a sense of pride and community among existing employees.
"We simply never could have completed this project with conventional video production methods. It would have been too costly and time-consuming," Shani added.
Anglicare WA’s experience is a prime example of how organisations can leverage tools like VideoMyJob to showcase their EVP in a compelling, authentic way. Through the power of employee videos, Anglicare WA was able to close the gap in perception and create a lasting library of content that reflects their values, culture, and the real experiences of their employees.
Moving forward, they continue to explore opportunities for leveraging employee stories to enhance engagement and attract new talent.
As Shani said, "I'm really proud of what we've produced, and I know it will continue to resonate with people who are considering joining us in the future."
